My friend Erik collects vintage concert posters. One of his more prized items in the collection is an original 1960s print from the Grateful Dead. His partner Sue asked me to build him a frame as a gift. My idea was to build an archival type frame that would allow the poster to hang, untouched by anything, with access to easily take the print out or be replaced with another print. The design I came up with was to basically hinge two frames together and allow the poster to hang from clips on the protective cover holding the print. I chose Wenge and Padauk as the main woods and milled them from 4/4 stock. I was able to find oiled brass hardware which I felt complimented the wood and print.
